The Maison de l'Amérique latine occupies two 18th-century hôtels particuliers in the heart of the Faubourg Saint-Germain: the Hôtel de Varengeville, built in 1704 by the architect Jacques Gabriel, and the Hôtel Amelot de Gournay, built in 1712 by Germain Boffrand. The two mansions are joined by a suite of grand salons opening onto a formal French garden — one of the last of its kind in central Paris.

Among its notable residents was the neurologist Professor Jean-Martin Charcot, who acquired the Hôtel de Varengeville in 1884 and received statesmen and writers within its walls. Since 1965 the building has been home to the Maison de l'Amérique latine, an institution founded in 1946 to foster cultural ties between France and Latin America — giving this address a rare double heritage of French architecture and international exchange.

On October 2, 2026, its historic salons and gardens will host the closing show of Infinity Fashion Week — three centuries of history as the backdrop for the newest names in fashion.
